Origin and character

The Lagotto is an ancient breed with historical roots in the Mediterranean world. Its ancestors are said to have arrived in Italy from the Middle East, where the Lagotto developed further as a water dog. It was trained to retrieve water game hunted in the marshes.

In addition, and also as a result of the gradual disappearance of many marches, the Lagotto became specialized as a truffle dog. This development was reflected in typical morphological characteristics of build, method of movement, nose and behavioural evolution such as working in close contact with its handler. This is why the Lagotto loves to live close to people.

The Lagotto is a country gentleman, a distinguished gentleman farmer. Both feet in the ground and cultivated at the same time.

He loves working with his boss. From truffle hunting to obedience training to taking his family for a walk in the dunes and woods.
